Bankfield were proud to host Halton’s official Sport Relief Mile event on Sunday 25th March. The focus of the event was the mile run. However, the eventful afternoon left us with lots to talk about. The 6 and 3 mile run took place before the mile in which we saw some impressive performances by both school and community members. A highlight of the 6 mile was 2 of the school children completed the whole 6 mile in hot conditions in full fancy dress outfits. The boys were then seen to complete the mile event later on their hands and knees – this was typical of the efforts put in by the school and the community and shows how important the charity of ‘Sport Relief’ is to the school.
The event was attended by the Mayor of Halton who took his time to say a few words before signalling to start the race. Highly motivated staff members completed the mile, some in fancy dress costumes others with their children and family members and others brought their pets. Other activities on the day were dance displays, face painting, bouncy castle, football competitions and the rodeo competition. The mile run saw over 250 people join in and play their part for Sport Relief – donations on the day were in excess of £550.00 and the donations through registrations was over £800.00. Sport Relief have informed us that the total sum raised by ‘our event’ is
a whopping £2236.00! This included registrations online, online
donations through our school login and sponsor money raised by our
participants! Feedback from the day has been overwhelming and Bankfield is looking forward to playing an even bigger part in Sport Relief in 2014.
